PREVENTIVE CARE

You brush regularly and your teeth don’t bother you. Is it really necessary to see the dentist every six months? YES!!!!!!

Keeping up with proper dental hygiene, including regular dental visits, isn’t just a matter of oral health, but of your health in general. Your mouth offers clues about your overall wellness. Conversely, if your teeth and gums are in poor condition, the rest of your body can be affected.

Why You Should Come

Your mouth is full of bacteria. Most of it is harmless, but if left uncontrolled by poor oral hygiene, the bacteria can reach levels that cause infections like tooth decay and gum disease. The body responds to infection by attacking it, which in turn causes inflammation in the mouth. This leads not only to tooth and bone loss, but is linked to other ailments like diabetes, heart disease and stroke.

Why you should keep coming

Practicing preventive care is the most important step in keeping bacteria in check and dental disease at bay. We do our part when you come in for your regular check-ups with meticulous cleanings, a thorough examination, and preventive treatments and fluoride. Most importantly, we’ll review proper at-home care and nutrition with you so you can do your part. A few moments of prevention can mean an entire lifetime of good oral health.

Preventive dental care is important throughout your life, no matter how old you are. By practicing good oral hygiene at home and scheduling regular visits at our dental office, you can help keep your smile bright and healthy for many years to come.

At Langley Family Dental, preventive dentistry is our principal objective. We want to make sure you get the most out of your office visits, and that you maintain your teeth for a lifetime. We’ll work with you to provide complete dental care, and show you how to maintain your smile at home with the right dental products.

Checkups and cleanings

Regular dental checkups are a critical part of maintaining your oral health. During your regular checkup, your hygienist and dentist will:

  • Check for any problems that you may not see or feel
  • Look for cavities or other signs of tooth decay
  • Inspect your teeth and gums for gingivitis and signs of periodontal disease such as gum recession, inflammation, swelling in the gums or other soft tissues, broken or fractured teeth or dental work, cavities or tooth decay.
  • Do a preliminary screening for oral cancer.
  • Provide a thorough cleaning.

Our hygienists are your personal trainers for oral health. They will recommend cleaning appointments every three, four or six months, depending on your needs. They may also create a personalized periodontal schedule tailored to your specific situation. Every six months, your visit will involve an oral exam. These checkups are also a great time for you to find out about any new treatments that may benefit the health of your teeth or the appearance of your smile.
